One of the main lines of action of the Association Notre Dame de Fatima pour le Développement (ANDFD) is access to quality health care for all, which is and remains a major challenge throughout the Central African Republic.

The challenge is enormous for the scarce and limited means at the Association's disposal. But this does not prevent us from trying to find ways to intervene, especially by taking advantage of the possibilities offered by being located in Bangui, the country's capital.
On the other hand, the situation in Bangui, although much better than the rest of the country, is still complicated. In districts 3rd and 6th, which are served by the Parish of Notre Dame de Fatima, there is no hospital facility for an estimated population of 200,000 inhabitants.

The current crisis has worsened the health situation in the area where the parish is located due to the limitation of the technical capacity of the neighbouring health centres, and because of the shortage of quality essential drugs. The population, already impoverished by repeated crises, resorts to street medicines due to the lack of access to quality, more expensive medicines that are not available close to their homes. The elderly, pregnant women and children suffer most from this lack of quality care.
Even more serious is the situation outside the capital Bangui, such as in the Lobaye Prefecture where the Catholic Diocese of M'Baïki is located, only 100 km from Bangui. There are hardly any doctors outside the city of M'Baïki.

Thus, in order to address these realities, directly in the 3rd and 6th districts of Bangui and indirectly in the other districts of Bangui (including the towns of Bimbo and Bégoua) and in the Prefecture of Lobaye (capital M'Baïki), ANDFD wishes to implement the following initiatives:
1º) Building a medical complex.
For decades, the Parish of Notre Dame de Fatima has relied on the dispensary of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres to provide basic health services as much as possible. Faced with the limited technical facilities of this dispensary, the Association intends to expand its actions building a medical complex.
Apart for providing proper access to medicines, the main purpose of the medical complex will be to provide specialised medical care. Medical care by specialists is one of the serious shortcomings of the country's health system. Access to specialist doctors by the population is very limited. Not only because of the severe lack of doctors, but also because of the financial cost involved. The complex would provide medical assistance to the population of districts 3 and 6 in Bangui, as well as to those sent from Lobaye or other Prefectures by the referred mobile teams if they could not be treated in their place.
The medical complex would consist of the following facilities:
- Pharmacy. (Already built and operational)
- Medical analysis laboratory. (Already built and operational)
- Polyclinic.
- Dental and ophthalmological clinic.
- Haemodialysis unit.
- Private faculty of medicine and other health sciences.
2º) Constitution of mobile clinics to bring health care to areas outside the capital that are completely lacking of health care assistance.
This mobile clinics not only will provide medical assistance on the ground, but also they will transfer to the medical complex in Bangui those who need specialized medical treatment and surgery.

For this project, ANDFD has a network of more than 20 specialist doctors and nurses who meet once a month to share their knowledge and exchange on the values of ethics, service and humanism. This network has existed since the beginning of the crisis in the Central African Republic, when most of them were just students trying to help the sick and disabled wherever they were and with whatever little means they had. In time, many became doctors, others became specialists in the public administration and others worked for NGOs. In addition, many other like-minded general practitioners and medical students join this network.
